On Wednesday 3 October, our colleagues in Finland will defend the rights of all employees against unfair dismissal by going on a political strike.

The Finnish government has put forward a legislative proposal that undermines employees’ protection against unfair dismissal in companies with fewer than 20 employees.

“We cannot accept any weakening of protection against dismissal, which is fundamentally important security for employees. In practice, employees at small workplaces would be on an ongoing trial period and live in uncertainty. This would be utterly unreasonable for individuals”, says Veli-Matti Kuntonen, the President of SEL.

Alongside, Service Union United PAM is also strongly opposing the draft legislation and announced a political strike for 3 October in selected work places to voice its concern over the unfair relation between size of the company and different legislation in dismissal situations.
