On International Women’s Day on 8th March, EFFAT and the entire European trade union movement are calling for women to be the agents of change.
With their election programme “A fairer Europe for workers”, ETUC trade unions push for a Europe:
- Where the European Pillar of Social Rights adopted EU in 2017 becomes reality, including the right to gender equality
- That ensures equal pay – for the same work or work of the same value – for women and men in all EU countries
- That fights for women’s’ rights
“We all know how gender equality is far from being achieved at the work place in Europe” – said Harald Wiedenhofer, EFFAT Secretary General. “The first action we need to put in place is to ensure that the next Parliament and Commission place the issues of gender parity high on the political agenda”.
Kerstin Howald, Tourism Political Secretary, said: “At EFFAT we take this issue very seriously. This year, EFFAT will roll out a project that particularly addresses sexual harassment and violence at work in the sectors of agriculture, food & drinks, hotels & restaurants, contract catering and domestic work, by increasing the knowledge about the scope and the impact of this phenomenon in our industries and by collecting information about policies and activities of national member organisations to fight sexual harassment and violence”.
