On occasion of the last Executive Committee meeting on 3 and 4 March 2020, EFFAT adopted a resolution exposing the recurrent anti-union approach of the Algerian government.
Following various dismissals of union members, harassment, judicial persecution of union leaders and democracy activists, EFFAT sent solidarity to independent trade unions in Algeria, including IUF affiliates SNAPAP and SNATEG, empathising with their struggle and calling for the respect of democratic principles.
In particular, EFFAT resolved to:
- Makes use of all available means to demand that the government acts in respect of the ILO recommendations and stop the persecution of trade union leaders
- Encourage all affiliated organisations to pressure the Algerian government to respect trade unions rights
- Calls affiliated organisations with membership in transnational companies active in Algeria to comply with the due diligence measures included in the OECD guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and carefully assess the risk of complicity in the violations
