6000 people from EFFAT Italian affiliates Fai-CISL, Flai-CGIL and Uila-UIL took the streets of Rome on Saturday 11 May 2019 to urge the government to take prompt measures towards improved quality work in agriculture, forestry, food and fisheries industry.
EFFAT expressed solidarity to its affiliates and shared their demands, including:
- Introduction of social safety nets for fisheries and agricultural workers
- Increase salaries and renewal of the collective contracts for forestry workers and breeders, stalled for almost a decade.
- Full application of 199/2016 law against illegal employment and caporalato accompanied by the the request to support the good practices activated locally by the unions.
The demonstration was also an occasion to reiterate their expectations for the approaching negotiations leading to the renewal of the national contract in the food industry including salaries, contractual welfare, enhanced health and safety conditions and work life balance protection.
