This week is the 6th annual Hotel Housekeepers Global Week of Action, as hotel housekeepers and their unions across the world take action to fight for dignified working conditions and adequate health and safety standards at work.
EFFAT, as a representative of trade unions in the food, agriculture and tourism sectors, stands with hotel workers throughout the world demanding full recognition of their workplace rights. In particular, this week unions are emphasising the need for social dialogue and negotiated measures to combat workplace sexual harassment to which hotel housekeepers are frequently subjected, and which can be extremely damaging to their safety and mental health. No worker should have to go to work in fear of violence or harassment.
Along with the IUF and its affiliates, EFFAT will fight to ensure employers provide suitable measures to protect workers in their companies from sexual harassment and all other forms of persecution and abuse.
This global week of action also chimes in with existing campaigns calling on Marriott Hotels to enforce stricter workplace safety standards – follow #MeTooMarriott.
