EFFAT welcomes the European Parliament’s decision on 25 October to end unfair trading practices (UTPs) and pave the way towards a fairer and more balanced food supply chain that benefits all actors involved: producers, workers and consumers.
With 428 votes in favour and 170 against, the European Parliament plenary approved De Castro’s report, a proposal that safe guards agreed contracts between farmers, producers and retailers, enhancing balance and predictability through the entire food supply chain. Trilogue negotiations where Commission, Council and Parliament sit together to continue the work and finalise the directive, have promptly started.
